About Tess

Tess Koppelman worked as a television journalist for 16 years, and won many awards including a regional Emmy award and several awards from the Missouri Broadcasters Association. You may recognize her from Fox 4 News in Kansas City where she worked as a reporter from 2001-2014 covering everything from tornadoes/floods/ winter snow storms (she does not miss doing live shots in the snow) as well as many elections, court cases, a serial killer mystery, and many stories that made national news. Her favorite stories were human interest stories and highlighting the good works of Kansas City nonprofits.Giving back to the community gives Tess a deep sense of purpose. She volunteers with many local charities and remains on the advisory board for HappyBottoms.org (Kansas City's Diaper Bank) which she first joined when it was a startup organization. While directing communications at HappyBottoms, she led efforts to increase community awareness through various earned media placements and built a social media presence and following.Since transitioning from a career in television news, Tess earned a Master's degree in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas and now she teaches a course for graduate students at KU focused on strategic writing and presenting skills for leaders. Tess is a member of the Public Relations Society of America - PRSA. Tess also works as a voiceover and on camera talent for commercial and corporate videos. She lives in Kansas City, KS with her husband and two young children, who love the voices she creates when reading bedtime stories.
